Natalie Camardo

Natalie-Modern Yoga

Born in Cleveland, Natalie is currently working as a Health Fitness Specialist. She graduated from Strongsville High School, where she ran cross country and track, and here is where she found her passion for running, fitness, and health.

Natalie continued her studies in Exercise Science at the University of Toledo, while being a member of their cross country/track and field teams. She furthered her interest in health and fitness by receiving a master’s in Applied Exercise Science and Sports Nutrition from Concordia University Chicago.

What inspired you to become a yoga teacher?

My career is in the fitness industry, and I knew I would eventually become a yoga instructor to add to my skill set, but it wasn’t until I had a breakthrough with my own practice that I felt inspired to teach and share this practice with others. A couple of OG Modern Yoga teachers were influential with this breakthrough and gently urged me to start teacher training. When we went into lockdown in March 2020, it felt like the perfect time to dive into this journey.

What kind of trainings have you pursued?

I obtained my 200 hr yoga certification through Modern Yoga, and in addition to that, I am a Personal Trainer (NASM), Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM), Level 1 Nutrition Coach (Precision Nutrition). I am currently enrolled in the 300-hour yoga teacher training and getting Pilates Instructor certifications.

What is one piece of advice for your students?

To be open. Open to each class, instructor, pose and moment. When you can be available to experience something without preconceived thoughts, you allow yourself to be fully present in the moment. Practicing mindfulness and awareness can bring mental clarity, reduce stress, increase focus, and so much more!

What is your favorite asana and why?

My favorite asana is Lizard Pose or Utthan Pristhasana in Sanskrit. Lizzard is a great hip opener, but it can be modified in many different ways. You can use props, twist, bind, etc. My favorite variation is to add a quad stretch to it.

What is your favorite yoga related book?

Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind by Shunryu Suzuki and Breathing for Warriors by Dr Belisa Vranich and Brian Sabin

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

I have never had chicken pox! I was exposed to it numerous times during my childhood but never actually caught it.

What are you really passionate about (Outside of the world of yoga)?

Outside of yoga I am passionate about health and wellness. I enjoy learning about new theories, different areas of health/fitness, and of course helping others improve their own health and quality of life. Running will always be a passion of mine- I’m still chasing some running goals.

Natalie  currently teaches YinSauna (Hot Yin Yoga) on Wednesdays @ 7am. She also subs classes throughout the month & has classes available on our virtual studio.  Sign up for a class today!
