We are excited to announce that starting on Saturday March 25th, 2023 a new prenatal yoga class will be added to  our Brecksville Studio schedule.  Jenny Surovey, RYPT, is back to lead this new class. Our schedule will now alternate Saturdays between our Strongsville and Brecksville studios. We will have prenatal/postnatal yoga classes every Saturday, alternating between our two Modern Yoga locations. See our schedule for details.

This class is designed for all stages of pregnancy, including postpartum. It is a great way for pregnant women to strengthen mentally, physically, and emotionally for the birth of your baby, and for postpartum mothers to support your body’s recovery during the fourth trimester.

The Benefits of Prenatal Yoga

Throughout the three trimesters of pregnancy, the body experiences physical changes which happen in stages to support the physiological self. Prenatal yoga practice can help increase flexibility, strength and endurance to the muscles needed for childbirth, reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, and decrease lower back pain, nausea, headaches, and shortness of breath. Yoga will help the body with cardiovascular and respiratory efficiency, endocrine and gastrointestinal functioning, immunity, and hand eye coordination and balance.

While prenatal yoga can have many physical benefits, it also provides us with a sense of community and a place for us to share and help each other become mentally prepared for labor and postpartum. At Modern Yoga, we want to empower expectant mothers to feel safe and strong and be able to provide the same for their baby.

What to Expect in a Prenatal Class

Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga is designed for all stages of pregnancy, including postpartum. This class is a great way for pregnant women to strengthen mentally, physically, and emotionally for the birth of your baby, and for postpartum mothers to support your body’s recovery during the fourth trimester. Our classes begin with circle time which allows students an opportunity to meet and share with other mothers in a supportive environment. From there, the class will start with gentle stretching, breathing exercises and meditation. We will move right into a series of standing and seated asanas and end the class with restorative postures and relaxation.
