Private Class Types

Alignment & Balance
What does a neutral spine feel and look like in your body as we flow through poses? You’ll learn how to tune into the feedback your body gives your brain to lead you to the right variation of each asana for you. Build and strengthen your foundation by digging deep into poses that are fundamental to any yoga practice. Study the feeling of proper placement in your head, shoulders, knees, hips, and feet.

Breath-work & Meditation
Meditation is often the most intimidating practice for a yogi but can truly be the most rewarding practice. Learn mindfulness or one of the many breath-work (pranayama) practices in yoga. Discover new insights & how to cultivate your own wisdom. These practice are great for high blood pressure, anxiety, depression & stress.

Inversions & Arm Balances
What happens on the journey to going upside down? Nothing but focus on being upside down. You’ll find the confidence to start the journey and learn techniques to get there safely. These practices are the simplest form of mindfulness practice and are alot of fun! Learn arm balances like crow, side crow, running man, side sissiors, fallen angel & inversions like handstand, headstand, shoulderstand & more.

Healing Yoga
This series is about recovery, whether it’s from injury, surgery, repeated motion, running, lifting weights, or the normal wear and tear your body endures from day to day. The combination of breathwork with careful and specific pose variations can create freedom in your body. If you suffer from back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain etc… these lessons are tailored to you.

Your instructors
Joyce is the co-owner & founder of Modern Yoga. Before focusing on yoga, Joyce was a competitive figure skater for many years. Her knowledge of movement informs her yoga teaching. She is an ERYT yoga teacher with over 5000 hours teaching yoga classes.
James is co-owner & founder of Modern Yoga. James started yoga to fix his back pain issues from years of running. He has studied meditation practices for over 20 years, with a focus on zen, chan, vipassana & theravada practices. James was certified in Yin yoga in 2018, he has also completed back pain yoga training & is an ERYT yoga teacher with over 5000 hours teaching yoga classes. James has also incorporated martial arts into his practice; he is a competitive jiu jitsu practitioner & also uses elements of Qigong in his yoga teaching. His knowledge of movement informs his yoga teaching.
Mary Beth is one of the most popular teachers at Modern Yoga. She an ERYT yoga teacher. She has continuously added to her training since becoming a yoga teacher. Mary Beth has recently completed a yoga for back pain training & is completing her 500 hour training.
