Carrie Harvey

Yoga Instructor

We’ve added a monthly restorative class to our yoga class schedule!
  • Class will be taught the 1st Sunday of each month @ 6:30 PM at our Brecksville studio location.
  • Class will be taught by Carrie Harvey, RYT 200. Carrie has become a much loved member of our staff here at Modern Yoga. She has continued her yoga training and is also a certified yin & restorative yoga teacher and will lead this monthly class.
  • The goal of restorative yoga is to activate the body’s relaxation response and bring total relaxation to the body. Props, such as bolsters, blankets, and blocks, are used to support the body and help the body release tension. Poses are held 5-10 minutes to allow the body to completely relax in the pose. Restorative yoga helps nourish and reset the body.
  • Room Temperature: 74-80

Restorative yoga is a gentle and relaxing form of yoga that emphasizes deep relaxation and release of tension from the body. This type of yoga is ideal for individuals looking to reduce stress and tension, improve sleep, and enhance overall well-being.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is different from other forms of yoga in that it emphasizes holding postures for an extended period, typically 5-10 minutes or more, using props such as blankets, bolsters, and blocks. These props help to support the body and allow it to completely relax, releasing tension in the muscles and joints. Restorative yoga poses are typically held for longer periods of time to encourage deep relaxation and a release of physical and mental tension.

Some of the key benefits of restorative yoga include:

Stress Reduction: Restorative yoga is an excellent way to reduce stress and promote relaxation. The long holds in restorative poses help to calm the nervous system, slow down the breath, and quiet the mind, all of which help to reduce stress and anxiety.

Improved Sleep: Restorative yoga can be an effective way to improve sleep quality. The deep relaxation and release of tension that occurs during a restorative yoga practice can help to promote better sleep, and may even help to alleviate insomnia.

Enhanced Flexibility: Restorative yoga poses can help to increase flexibility and range of motion. The long holds and use of props allow the body to gently stretch and release tension in the muscles, without straining or overexerting.

Improved Circulation: Restorative yoga poses can help to improve circulation throughout the body, which can help to reduce inflammation and promote healing.

Boosted Immune System: Restorative yoga can help to boost the immune system by reducing stress and promoting relaxation. A healthy immune system is essential for overall well-being and can help to prevent illness and disease.

Join Carrie for this restorative yoga class on the 1st Sunday of each month at 6:30PM at our Brecksville Modern Yoga location.
