Teacher Spotlight Series

Carla Ganim

Outside of Modern Yoga, Carla balances her time between family and work. She currently resides in Strongsville with her husband, Greg, and her two wonderful children. Carla is also a full-time Art Teacher for Strongsville School District, allowing her to share her passion for art and creativity amongst the kids! “I have been teaching art for the past 15 years. I absolutely love teaching every age and level. I taught preschoolers in South Korea and adults with special needs, and every age and level in between.”
Carla’s connection with Modern Yoga started before the studio even opened back in 2016. “I was randomly seated at a table with James and Joyce at a mutual friend’s wedding. When I told them I was from Strongsville, Joyce said, ‘Oh, we’re looking to open a yoga studio there!’ and the rest is history!”
Sounds like fate to us!! wink

What inspired you to become a yoga teacher?

“Yoga has been the only constant in my life for the past 20 years. I love trying all types of workout classes, but yoga is the one that has stuck! It wasn’t until I began practicing at Modern Yoga that I fully understood the breathing component. I hope to relay to all of my students the importance of breath in their practice and how to use it to enhance their practice.”

What is one piece of advice for your students?

“Don’t be afraid to try new teachers! Every time I take a class with a new teacher, I hear a new cue or phrase that really resonates with my practice. We all fall into a preferred class or class time, but take the class with the sub and I bet you just might find something you love!“

What inspires you to get on your mat?

“I love coming to yoga and having the rest of the outside world disappear. When I’m in the studio, my body relaxes and I know that I am giving myself the time I need to re-energize. As much of a challenge as it can be to set aside time in our busy lives, I think it is essential to my grounding and my well-being.“

What are your passions outside of yoga?

“I have the need and love for creating things, whether it’s Cricuting t-shirts for my kids swim team, a google slides presentation, laser-cutting earrings, painting a birthday banner, or any type of art or craft. I just love the process of creating.“

Currently, what is your favorite yoga related book/platform/podcast?

“I listen to a podcast called “The Funny Thing About Yoga.” It’s a lighthearted podcast with a couple of entertaining yoga teachers!”

Last Question…If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

“I have spent a couple of summers living and working on Kelleys Island, which is pretty close to the ideal life. (This is also where I met my husband!) It’s slow-paced, with little to no cell reception, and a place where you know everyone. I cherish the time by myself or with close friends, and it doesn’t hurt to be surrounded by beautiful scenery in the middle of Lake Erie!”
