What’s Your Favorite Asana?

“Warrior 2 is one pose that has continued to be a favorite pose of mine through the years.  I feel more powerful in that pose than any other pose.”

What inspired you to become a yoga teacher?

“I had thought about doing teacher training for a while before I took the plunge.  There was a little voice in my head that kept bringing me back to the idea over and over again.  I had been a bit sporadic in my own yoga practice and wanted to get more consistent so I thought teacher training would help immerse me, even if I never ended up teaching yoga after I finished training.  But it turned out that I did in fact like teaching once I started teacher training.”

What is one piece of advice for your students?

“I have a number of mantras that I believe, particularly in my professional life but they also tend to apply outside of my work life too. One of my favorites is “With chaos comes opportunity.”  When there is a lot of change and chaos, it can be easy to be overwhelmed but that can also be the time when opportunities for growth and development present themselves.”

What inspires you to get on your mat?

“My life can be busy sometimes but I have never once regretted going to a yoga class.  So when I’m wavering between going to class or doing something else, I remind myself that I will not regret going – but I may very well regret not going.”

What other passions do you have (outside of yoga)?

“Spending time with my family – My daughter will turn 11 in December and it’s amazing how fast time goes by the older I get so I try to not take for granted the quality time that we get to spend together.”

Do you have a favorite yoga related book/podcast?

“While it’s not directly about yoga, “Think Like a Monk” by Jay Shetty is still one of my favorite books that has a lot of teachings in it that are applicable to yoga and life.”

What is something most people don’t know about you?

“Here are three random fun facts that my friends and family all know but the Modern Yoga family probably does not:

(1) I grew up on a sheep farm

(2) I was a college cheerleader

(3) I am a licensed wedding officiant.”
