Teacher Spotlight

Natalie Camardo

We’re excited to catch up with Natalie in this updated Teacher Spotlight! Since her last feature. Natalie has started a new job as a fitness specialist, Natalie started a new job as a fitness specialist, blending her love for movement and wellness in new ways. She completed her 500-hour yoga teacher training, became certified in Yin yoga, and expanded her teaching schedule.

Yoga, health, and wellness continue to be a huge passion for Natalie. She loves running, strength training, trying out new recipes, and exploring the metroparks. Beyond her practice and fitness, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and traveling to new places.

She’s also enjoyed some big personal milestones— buying and renovating her new condo, hiking Rim to Rim in the Grand Canyon, and accomplishing a long-time running goal of breaking 3 hours in the marathon.

Between teaching, traveling, spending time with family, and caring for her pup, Natalie has kept busy in the best way. We’re grateful to have her as part of our Modern Yoga family!

What inspires you to get on your yoga mat?

“The need for stillness (mind and body) and a good stretch. Each time we practice we are reminded of much we need to slow down, find our breath, and be present.”

Is there a class theme, pose, or intention you’ve been especially drawn to lately?

“Side Bends! I love side bends and always incorporate them into my classes. They work on a lot of different muscles and can improve rib cage mobility, which can make it easier to create a deeper expansive breath. For class themes or intentions I always like to add in mobility where I can.”

What does “success” in your practice or teaching look like for you right now?

“Right now for practicing it is a success to just get on my mat for more than 20 min. A success with teaching is simply giving students the space to find their breath, practice it, and hopefully overtime be able to expand their breath (longer, deeper, 3 dimensional breaths).”

What’s something you’re currently learning (on or off the mat)?

“Experimenting with crystal singing sound bowls!”

What helps you stay grounded when life gets chaotic?

“My breath! I have really been able to use my breath in times of chaos, stress, and uncertainty.”

How do you recharge when you’re feeling burned out or overwhelmed?

“Getting to a yin yoga class or laying in the sun- bonus points if it’s in a pool :)”

What is one piece of advice for your students?

“… Always be open: open to new experiences—both on and off the mat. Yoga is a journey of exploration, whether it’s trying a new style, modifying a pose, or simply showing up with a different mindset.”

What’s a moment of joy or awe you’ve experienced recently?

“There were many moments of awe when hiking in the Grand Canyon and it’s always joyful seeing my nieces do yoga.”
