Begin Your Yoga Teacher Training Journey Today!

Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Our yoga teacher training will give you the space to choose where the journey yoga takes you on next. You may be surprised at what truly interests you after you make the commitment and dive in. You may be drawn to the spiritual side of yoga, or you may immerse yourself in the secular types of meditation and beliefs within the world of yoga. You may also find that although you love hot power yoga, something inside of you is telling you to specialize in chair or restorative yoga.

All students are teachers and all teachers are students.

We learn from each other constantly. Whether your desire is to lead friends and family in a home Yoga practice, teach at a gym or studio, or teach your co-workers, you will learn to see your students and trust that you will guide them in the right direction through simple breath and movement. And, just like your practice on the mat, elements of your teaching practice will show up outside of the yoga studio. You will learn to speak with ease and confidence, listen fairly and effectively, and trust that you will have what you need when you need it.

James & Joyce Atherton, E-RYT 200, YACEP & Owners at Modern Yoga

Our Yoga teacher training will be lead by James & Joyce, owners of Modern Yoga. Both lifelong athletes, Joyce a competitive figure skater and James a runner, yoga made sense in their bodies first and then opened their minds and then started to change their lives.

James and Joyce have over 3500 combined hours teaching yoga and are Experienced Registered Yoga Teachers (ERYT) with the  Yoga Alliance.  Modern Yoga is a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with the Yoga Alliance.

With backgrounds in corporate America and small business, coupled with the entrepreneurial spirit, James and Joyce first discussed the idea of opening a studio in the fall of 2014. After months of research and planning, James Joyce LLC was formed in March of 2015 with the intention of opening a Power Vinyasa Yoga studio in Strongsville, Ohio.

Over the last 2 years we have seen our small Yoga community at Modern Yoga grow and grow! We want to grow the teachers in our community as well and teach more of what we have learned.  Our most important goal is to share the Gift of Yoga. Our Yoga teacher training is our vehicle to share that gift even more.

James & Joyce trained through Live Love Teach & The Yoga Project. LLT & YP focuses on vinyasa yoga with a strong emphasis on connecting breath and movement. During our training, we experienced some of the most powerful, transformative classes we’ve ever taken. We feel both honored and proud to have studied with Live Love Teach & the Yoga Project.  We now want to bring the teaching style to Cleveland in a bigger way with our Yoga teacher training courses.  We would love for you to join us!

Matt will lead our Anatomy modules with workshop style training that correlates his experience & knowledge to the Yoga practice we teach.  We are excited to partner with Matt & Pure Physio Rehab. The curriculum for Modern Yoga’s 200 Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) focuses on two main areas of study:
Practical teaching: The connection between breath and body is the core of every yoga class at Modern Yoga. This very connection makes the practice a moving meditation, also known as vinyasa yoga. You will learn how to lead students through a vinyasa flow sequence through guided practice teaching. When you have completed our training, you will have confidence in your ability to teach a complete yoga class.
Yoga Foundations: Yoga is ancient, sacred and vast. You will study yogic philosophy, anthropology and history and explore how this 5000-year-old practice applies to modern life.
Yoga teacher training requires deep self-study and reflection. It is an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Whether your desire is to become a yoga teacher or if you wish to simply deepen your practice, we have very accessible options for you.
